  • OSMS students, Megan Barnes and Hayley Brodeur present TBBCF with Check

Megan Barnes is pictured left and Hayley Brodeur right
June 13, 2009 - Old Saybrook Middle School (OSMS) students, Megan Barnes and Hayley Brodeur presented TBBCF co-founder, Sandy Maniscalco with a check for $33.24 representing proceeds from the sale of bracelets they designed and marketed during the 2008 school year.

Both girls walked in the 2008 OSMS walkathon enduring 9 and 10 miles. After the middle school walk, the pair began making bracelets with the hope of selling them at school and directing the proceeds to TBBCF.

Their marketing plan included speaking in front of all the fifth grade classes, stating their purpose and what they were selling. A huge accomplishment for two quiet girls!!!

They sold the bracelets for a quarter a piece. Some customers would give them a dollar and tell them to keep the change. They estimate they made 100 bracelets.

What is next for Megan and Hayley? The duo plans to make beaded bracelets over the summer and resume their fundraising in the fall.

Megan's mother (Allison Barnes) and Hayley's grandmother (Barbara O'Connell) are TBBCF Foundation Leaders. Hayley is the niece of the late Terri and Tim Brodeur.
