  • More Magazine Half Marathon 2009

April 26, 2009 - Twenty TBBCF seasoned walkers participated in the More Magazine Half Marathon on Sunday, April 26. This was the third annual showing of TBBCF walk veterans at this "women only" event. The half marathon was held in NYC's Central Park.

More Magazine organizers invited marathoners and teams to CBS Plaza to be prepared to "tell their stories" to TV audiences watching the weekend news program.

A small contingent, proudly outfitted in TBBCF gear and carrying Walk Across SECT posters, reported to CBS Plaza at 5:30 a.m. on Saturday to get TBBCF noticed on the CBS Early Morning Show.

After standing in line (in the front row) for three hours the TV star wannabes learned that the Early Show segment was not broadcast in Connecticut! Channel 3 opted to show cartoons instead.

The More Half Marathon sold-out before five members of the TBBCF team had registered. Since they had gone through the 15-week training program, the five women completed the More Half Marathon the day prior to the official event.

They are pictured left, with weekend event organizers, after finishing their 13.1-mile marathon course through Central Park on Saturday.

On Saturday night many of the marathoners enjoyed the traditional "pre-marathon pasta dinner" at Carmine's Restaurant in Times Square.

The 15-week training program did not prepare the runners and walkers for the heat wave that gripped the Big Apple over the marathon weekend. However, TBBCF women prevailed and finished the event with big smiles on their faces! Click here to check out the photo album from the great girls only weekend in New York.
